In 1990, we developed a highly innovative Business Licence Information Service (BLIS) for the Tasmanian Government. This service paved the way for the contemporary approach to providing compliance information services that help businesses, particularly small businesses, understand and manage their regulatory compliance obligations. From 1990, we assisted a range of states and territories to develop, maintain and enhance their own BLISs and ancilliary/related services.
From 2008 we have assisted the Commonwealth and our state and territory clients to design, develop and implement an Australian Business Licence and Information Service (ABLIS) - which was a Council of Australian Governments regulatory reform initiative. The aim of ABLIS is to help businesses find all government licenses, permits, registrations, codes of practice, standards and guidelines they need to know to meet their compliance responsibilities.
Since that time, we have been heavily involved in assisting our clients (the Commonwealth and all states and territories) with the provision of jurisdictional data to ABLIS and the ongoing improvement of ABLIS. We have also provided strategic advice on the high-level development and enhancement of ABLIS, including advice on the metadata schema and data and classification structure required to underpin it.
